Description

The UNI-T UTL8511B+ DC Electronic Load is a programmable high-voltage electronic load designed for testing and evaluating DC power sources, batteries, chargers, adapters, power supplies, and electronic circuits. With a maximum input rating of 500V DC, 15A, and 200W, it provides controlled and repeatable loading conditions for laboratory testing, research and development, production verification, and maintenance applications.

Unlike a conventional resistive load, an electronic load actively regulates the amount of current drawn from the device under test. The UTL8511B+ supports several operating modes, including Constant Current (CC), Constant Voltage (CV), Constant Resistance (CR), and Constant Power (CP). This allows engineers to reproduce different load conditions and evaluate how a power source responds to changing electrical demands. The CC mode supports up to 15A, while the CV mode covers up to 500V. The CR range extends from 0.05Ω to 10kΩ, providing flexibility for a wide variety of test conditions.

The UTL8511B+ is particularly useful for battery discharge and capacity testing. Its dedicated battery test mode can be used to apply a controlled discharge load while monitoring the battery's electrical behavior. The instrument can record the discharge process and help evaluate battery performance under defined test conditions. This makes it suitable for testing battery packs, rechargeable batteries, DC power banks, and other energy-storage systems.

For dynamic testing, the load provides a maximum dynamic frequency of 50kHz and a programmable current slew rate from 0.0006A/μs to 3A/μs. These capabilities allow users to examine the transient response of power supplies and converters when the load changes rapidly. The unit also supports automated LIST testing, allowing multiple test conditions to be arranged into repeatable sequences for development and production environments.

Beyond standard loading, the UTL8511B+ includes dedicated test functions for over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP), load effect, short-circuit behavior, ripple measurement, and CR-LED testing. The ripple measurement and waveform display functions provide additional information when evaluating DC power supply output quality.

The instrument features a 4.3-inch LCD display and provides RS232 communication with SCPI protocol, making it suitable for computer-controlled measurement and automated test systems. Multiple protection mechanisms, including over-voltage, over-current, over-power, over-temperature, and reverse-connection protection, help protect the electronic load and the device under test during operation.
